“First visit on Friday 5th April and it was just ok. After seeing this venue on TV last week (Alan Carr's Interior Design program) I took my parents here. Upon entering, the décor is nice, but it was very busy and loud inside. The music was too loud which caused customers to speak loudly and it was all bouncing off the interior corrugated metal wall inside the main part of the café. Three available tables, which was great, but they were all left with large amounts of waste food from the previous customers, which gave two negative impressions: one being that customers didn't like their meals, (there were pancakes, sandwiches, meats, all left on plates one all available tables); two being that the staff weren't clearing away tables accordingly (and I write this because I sat at my table with the previous customers' left over on it, perused the blackboard menu for a good 5 minutes, approached the counter and waited my turn to be served, after a few minutes I placed my order and returned to my table, after a few more minutes my pot of tea was served and only after me asked if my table could be cleared was it done so.) All the waitresses were smiley, polite and friendly, but service to clear tables was slow as was the service at the till (only because it was a busy time and there is only one till causing a longish queue out into the conservatory). The meals came after about 10 minutes, they were beautifully presented. It's not a typical greasy spoon cafe, it's a refreshing menu with lots of flavours and variety. No complaints there. The prices are higher than other eateries in the Gowerton/Gorseinon area, £2.70 for a pot of tea and 50p extra if you're lactose intolerant or vegan and require alternative milk makes this pricey. It would certainly bode well if tea prices were lower, or even complimentary with a breakfast as many rival cafes in Swansea offer and whilst I appreciate that oat and soya milk can be more expensive for a business to buy, 50p to the customer certainly adds up, and when a litre of Oatly Barista style milk costs £1.50 in a supermarket, there seems to unnecessary profiteering here for the portion of milk one receives. Being intolerant to dairy milk or being a vegan doesn't cost a customer any extra other chain cafes or various private cafes, so this is something I feel that Y Shed could revise. The banana loaf cake was tasty, the Coaltown coffee is mild and smooth, it's ok. One other thing I would add, mobile phone reception inside the cafe was very poor (I use Tesco/O2 network) and there is no customer wifi indoors. The cafe is nice for what it is, the food was very tasty and the staff are smiley and friendly, but for me, it is pricier than other cafes of comparable quality, it was noisy on the day I went there at least, the music was too loud to make it a cost atmosphere, charging extra for alternative milk is a negative as is the lack of wifi. Not bad, but not great.”
